Marcus Dillon, CPA is the president and founder of Dillon CPAs in Katy, Texas. He has a Bachelor’s degree and a Masters degree in Accounting from Texas State University. Marcus started the firm in 2011 with the goal of providing high levels of service to clients who entrust their finances to Dillon CPA s. He prioritizes maintaining balance between spending time with his beautiful wife, Rachel, and their two strong and independent daughters, and owning a firm that positively impacts the lives of the Dillon CPAs team, their clients and their community. How do you keep yourself motivated and driven by your work, regardless of how busy you are day to day?
Internally, I know I can lead our team to serve our clients and encourage our people along the way, which leads to fulfillment in their jobs. Externally, I can coach clients about financial aspects of their businesses and lives in order to allow them to focus on what they do best and why they originally went in to business.
What is your best business advisory-related tip for businesses?
Focus on the one thing you are best at and enjoy the most. Give away the rest.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Leadership is elevating others to be their best and being willing to take risks in order to accomplish team goals.
What is the best book you have ever read?
It is hard to pick just one. A few that I keep coming back to include: Start with Why, E Myth and Traction.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would give Caribbean catamaran tours while Rachel would teach paddle boarding.
Which country do you want to visit, and why?
French Polynesian Islands, given their serenity and beauty. This could be a stop on a Hawaii to Australia cruise!
Who would you like to visit with over coffee?
Either of my grandfathers that passed away before I was born.
